Alabama Young People in the Spotlight in Charleston
By Rodney Yerby
Students from Alabama ministered in a variety of leadership roles during the National Convention in Charleston.
The National Youth Evangelistic Team consists of twelve high school students. The team is selected each year at the conclusion of the National Youth Conference from among the top finishers in individual Music and Art Competition categories. The following summer the team trains for one week, and then spends a week touring and ministering at churches around the country. Two students from Alabama were on the 2008 NYET: Rebekah Ayers from Northport and Thomas Yerby from Madison. The 2008 NYET opened the adult Worship Service on Monday night at the convention. Both students from Alabama had solo performances. The 2009 NYET also has two Alabama students: Jake Hunter from Northport and Thomas Yerby from Madison.
The Truth and Peace Student Leadership Conference features 14 days of orienting Free Will Baptist students to become self-sacrificing leaders. Eighty of the best high school student leaders meet during the summer to experience the intensity of worship, training, service, and friendships that is Truth and Peace.
Eleven students from Alabama were part of Truth and Peace 2008:

The 2008 National Youth Conference was the laboratory for putting into practice what the students learned about themselves and others for the last four days of the conference. The student leaders of T&P serve the denomination every summer in a variety of ways, looking for opportunities to influence the NYC and the National in a positive way.
