In
2008 the Alabama State Association, while meeting at the First FWB Church
Dothan, voted to set up a fund for the purpose of building a State Executive
Office on the property of the Children’s Home in Eldridge.
A
building committee was selected consisting of Danny
Williams, Wayne Overton, Mark McCraney , Jimmy Aldridge and Lewis Hindman.
They along with Executive Director Rick Cash met on September 9, 2010 and
selected plans. The committee chose Wayne Overton to oversee the project. In
2010 while meeting at the South Highland FWB Church the Alabama Association
approved building plans and gave the go ahead as designated funds were
received. During the meeting Rev. Mike Beckon suggested we fund the building
of the office just like we did the Acts 1:8 program where everyone was
challenged to do their share. He pointed out that the cost of building and
furnishing would be close to $150 per square foot.
The demolition of the old church building and site preparation began in
December 2010. Site prep was finished on February 17. A ground breaking
ceremony was held on February 21, 2011. The slab was poured on March 19,
2011. With the use of Free Will Baptist volunteer help the first walls went
up on August 29. By September 9 the building was completely blacked in.
Bricking was completed by November 4, 2011.
This is a pay as we go project. A
$150 donation will provide one square foot. The office will consist of 1,850
square feet. So far we have received $45,300 in gifts from five
associations, 31 individuals, 1 WAC group, one youth group 18 churches and
two foreign countries.
